Bread Recipe

Here is a bread recipe that takes very little effort, but about 4 hours time.  I use a stand mixer with the paddle to make this, but a hand mixer would work as well. The recipe can be halved, yielding 2 small loaves. This is a wet sticky dough that does not need kneading.

  • 3C  tepid water
  • 3t  salt
  • 2t  yeast (regular or bread machine) or 1 package yeast
  • 6C  bread flour (regular flour will work)

Into mixing bowl put 5 cups flour, yeast and salt. Mix to distribute.  On low, slowly add the water. Slowly up the speed to medium and mix until smooth.  Slow down and add the remaining flour.  Slowly bring up the speed to med high and mix until smooth.  Scrape down the paddle and sides of bowl.  Lightly spray with oil the top of dough and cover with a lint free cloth. Let rest at room temperature 1.5 hours.

Stir dough by hand well and distribute into pans, filling 1/2-2/3 full. This recipe makes 3 large loaves. Let rest another 1.5 hours

After the dough has rested for 1 hour, set oven to 400 degrees.

Bake at 400 degrees for 30-50 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped. Small loaves will bake in less time.

Do not cut  until cooled to just barely warm.
